Twilight Hunger

Twilight Hunger
Maggie Shayne
Paranormal Romance - 400 pages

"There were no such things as vampires. Much less a covert government agency devoted to researching them. And yet, here was the proof that there were."

Snow Kitty thinks
 it’s mouth-wateringly delicious
The majority of the story takes place 5 years after the previous book. The DPI headquarters is destroyed. Maxine was the biggest believer that “The Cancer Research Facility” was just a big cover up, so she dragged her friends along to snoop around the place. Seeing if they can find info into what was really going on. In her snooping Maxine unknowingly comes across Frank Stiles, DPI agent, he accidently drops important items that Maxine picks up. Important information all about the vampires DPI had been tracking and hunting. Frank threatens Maxine by threatening to hurt her friends and family if she tells anyone what she knows. So she keeps quiet until Lou (Maxine’s long time crush) introduces her to Lydia. Lydia’s friend was murdered by a vampire and she thinks vampires really exist. Lou wants Maxine to convince Lydia that there is no such thing as vampires. Unfortunately, Maxine cannot because she knows that they are real. While investigating the murder she is led to Morgan. Morgan, an up and coming writer, stumbles across Dante’s journals thinking it’s just someone’s unpublished book about being a vampire. Morgan becomes obsessed with his life story and turns it into a movie not knowing that Dante really does exist.
I really liked this book. Every time I would put it down, I would think about picking it right back up. I love Maxine’s playful nature towards Lou; he is older and refuses to see her as anything but a kid (so she thinks). Even Sarafina, Dante’s Aunt/Sire made the story come together, a lot of exciting reveals and twists. Maggie Shayne’s world of Vamps is so amazingly captivating; I’m already in love with this series!

At Twilight

At Twilight
Maggie Shayne
Romance - 340 pages

This book was given to me by a friend. It’s apart of the Wings in the Night series, unfortunately I only have 7 out of 17 books in the series. And with the agreement I have with my husband I will not be able to purchase any new ones until I finish reading the ones I have.
There two stories in this book: Born in Twilight and Beyond Twilight, which if you plan on reading this book I would read Beyond Twilight first because there are certain events that happen the Born in Twilight that make you say, “HEEEY wait a minute!” when you get around to reading Beyond Twilight (I learned this the hard way).

Beyond Twilight
“Impossible. It’s your imagination, dammit. She’s not the woman in your dreams.”

This cat and mouse love story involves Cuyler Jade, a vampire, and Stephen “Ramsey” Bachman, who works for the Division of Paranormal Investigations a secret department in the CIA. Cuyler is trying to make Ramsey see that there is something between them besides their naughty dreams. *blush* Cuyler Jade and Ramsey’s story is an easy read. I liked the witty banter here and there, Maggie made Cuyler very likeable (for me at least) and made me want more of their story, I would like to see where they are now. Maybe we’ll get a snippet in the future books.

Born in Twilight
“I am damned. I am damned. I am damned.”

Angelica a soon to be nun is turned into a Vampire. Angelica, a woman of hard core religious beliefs, goes through a lot judgmental righteousness. That’s where Jameson comes into play setting her straight with the help of some other vampires. Jameson and Angelica meet under strained circumstances that put them at odds with each other. And at times I just want to shake them but it makes a great page turner. The book itself has both first and third person point of view. I was a tiny bit confused sometimes getting my girly and manly voices mixed up. Otherwise very good twists and reveals could not wait to pick up the next book in the series.

Recommending My Favorites

Recently I cataloged the many books I own because I wanted to have an on hand log of the books I have and the ones I needed. As of today I own 157 books. Some I’ve had for 13 years others more recently. It amazes me how many books I’ve owned and lost, mainly through selling them or giving them away. But I’ve decided to be selfish with my books and I will keep them all for as long as I live.
Since I’ve started collecting books I’ve probably owned about 200, which might not seem a lot to anyone that owns more than me. But for someone that is just starting out it’s a lot for me. I started reading for “fun” in the sixth grade, my English teacher Mrs. Rios read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to us in class. From that moment I was hooked, so I begged my mother to buy the boxed series at the school book fair. Here we are 13 years later, Harry Potter still on my book shelf minus the box, my love for books even stronger.

My ultimate favorite series is by Jean M. Auel
The Clan of The Cave Bear
                          The Valley of the Horses
                          The Mammoth Hunters
                          The Plains of Passage
                          The Shelters of Stone
                          The Land of Painted Caves

The series is set in prehistoric times following Ayla’s life as an earthquake tears her world apart. Her story is so well written you can see her life playing before your eyes. You will be with her as she lives and grows into a woman that changes the world around her. Ayla’s story has everything: romance, adventure and sometimes tragedy.

This series was recommended to me by my mother a long time ago, now I recommend it to anyone that asks. I fell in love with this series and have read it multiple times. Hopefully you will too.

*Currently I’m reading the “Wings in the Night” series by Maggie Shayne.
